季節の変化を味わう花見や紅葉狩りといった行楽、雛祭りや端午をはじめとする節句、神田祭や山王祭といった祭礼など、江戸時代には日々の生活に変化を与える様々なイベントが現代以上に多くありました。庶民が親しんだ浮世絵を通して四季折々の風物を楽しみながら暮らす江戸の人々の姿を覗いてみましょう。

 

Compared to today, there was more variety of events in the Edo period (1603-1867), which spiced up people’s everyday lives; They went on excursions such as cherry blossom viewing and colored leaves viewing to feel the changes of the seasons, celebrated seasonal festivals such as Girls’ Festival and Boys’ Festival, and enjoyed shrine festivals such as Kanda Festival and Sannō Festival. This exhibition introduces lives of people in Edo enjoying seasonal events, through Ukiyo-e woodblock prints cherished by common people.
