浮世絵に描かれた着物の文様には四季の草花や生き物、吉祥図様や身の回りの道具まで、様々なモティーフが取り込まれています。豊かな文様表現や、それらの効果的な配置、さらに柄や色の取り合わせで変化する華やかさや粋な感覚は、現代に生きる人々から見ても新鮮なものです。着物の文様を通して江戸時代の美意識をお楽しみいただければ幸いです。

Various motifs are imaginatively used in patterns of Kimono depicted in Ukiyo-e; they vary from the flowers and creatures of the four seasons, auspicious patterns to everyday utensils. Patterns with rich expressions are effectively arranged within the limited space of Kimono or Obi sash, and the combination of patterns and colors create splendor and style, which seem modern even for people today. We hope you will enjoy the sense of beauty of the Edo period through the patterns of Kimono.

当館は昭和57年（1982）４月28日に開館し、今年で開館37年目を迎えます。

この日を開館記念日として、当日は入館料の割引、さらに当館での展示は３年ぶりとなる、葛飾北斎「富嶽三十六景　神奈川沖浪裏」の他、北斎作品（４点）の特別展示を行います。
